The following is a list of selected links, with a brief bibliography of what information that you will find by selecting the link. These are just some of the best starting places for research on water, PPCP and other micropollutants and should not be considered comprehensive or all-inclusive.
This site serves as a thematic entry point to the current UNESCO and UNESCO-led programs on freshwater. It also provides a platform for sharing and browsing websites of other water-related organizations, government bodies and NGOs through the water links and events databases. The UNESCO Water Portal's objective is to improve access to information on freshwater on the web.
Important sub sites on the UNESCO sub site include The World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), which was founded in 2000. Housed in UNESCO, WWAP monitors freshwater issues in order to provide recommendations, develop case studies, enhance assessment capacity at a national level and inform the decision-making process. The primary work product is the United Nations World Water Development Report, released every three years in conjunction with the World Water Forum, is the UN's flagship report on water. It is a comprehensive review that gives an overall picture of the state of the world's freshwater resources and aims to provide decision-makers with the tools to implement sustainable use of our water. The latest UN World Water Development report was completed in 2009.
WHO works on aspects of water, sanitation and hygiene where the health burden is high, where interventions could make a major difference and where the present state of knowledge is poor: Drinking-water quality, Bathing waters, Water resources, Water supply and sanitation monitoring, Water, sanitation and hygiene development, Wastewater use, Water-related disease, Healthcare waste, emerging issues in water and infectious disease. This is the Environmental Protection Agency's home page for information on Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products as Pollutants (PPCPs). PPCPS include prescription and over-the counter therapeutic drugs, Veterinary drugs, fragrances, cosmetics, sun-screen products, diagnostic agents, nutraceuticals (e.g., vitamins). A large number of reports, FAQs, links to glossaries, delineation of research topics, research funding opportunities, and other basic information is provided at this site. According to information at the EPA FAQ site, the term PPCP was first coined in the 1999 critical review published in Environmental Health Perspectives (PDF) (41pp, 789 KB)

Its mandate and expertise lies in protecting the health of all Canadians by developing the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality in partnership with the provinces and territories. These guidelines are used by every jurisdiction in Canada and are the basis for establishing drinking water quality requirements for all Canadians. "
ESWE Institute for Water Research and Water Technology is connected to the Department of Applied Hydrochemistry of the Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz. The non-profit ESWE Institute conducts scientific research in water supply, water analysis and surface water protection.
This is an institute affiliated with the University Duisburg-Essen. The IWW Water Centre was founded in 1986 by water suppliers, wastewater associations and the DVGW - Deutsche Vereinigung des Gas- und Wasserfachs e.V. (German Technical and Scientific Association for Gas and Water).

This is a not-for-profit technical and educational organization with 36,000 individual members representing water quality professionals around the world.
